Hardys Bay weekender

This house is a weekender on the Central Coast. The aim of this new dwelling was to provide a simple holiday house that sat in the landscape, provided views of the trees, maximised sunshine into the house and provided a private experience. The house is a timber house utilising hardwood and exposing all joints of the timber to express the structure. The house was orientated to maximise winter sun and summer breezes. The simple rectangle with verandahs both ends (one an open deck and the other a gauzed and covered verandah) provided a living space that could expand for parties and could provide external living spaces when shade was sought or when sun was sought and when escape from mosquitoes was required. The mezzanine sleeping areas meant that these spaces could still partake of the views to the north and west. Window seats provided additional seating without the need for furniture that could clutter the space.
